Connection – Blog #4

For the past two weeks, we’ve been reading about heroic journeys, myths, and poetries. They each have connections of where they all have a journey to go through and obsticles to previle in. Also, we talked about mythology and archetype. Archetype is a collectively inherited unconscious idea, pattern of thought, image, etc., universally present in individual psyches (Dictionary). Everything we talked about in class so far has connection in journeys in life that you have to face and obsticles that you have to over come.

This class is nothing like English 101

I know its gonna be a lot of work, but a whole lot of fun

I’m mentally prepared, but not so physically

This class is too early, I wish it starts at 3

Its gonna be a lot of reading which I never liked

All this reading will take up most of my nights

I’m not complaing because I’m ready for this class

Because at the end of the semester, I’m going to pass

My Hero – Blog #2

The person that I choise to be my hero is my mom. Her name is Duong Kim and she been through so much in her life that I consider her to be a hero. She’s a hero to me because she been through many obsticles in her life and never once she gave up.

Before coming to America, she had to make her way from Vietnam to Thailand on foot because of the war. During that time my dad could not be around as much as he would like because he was a soldier himself. She took care of her 4 childdren at the time before she can make it to Thailand in order to come to America. Not once she gave up because she knew that coming to America would give her family a better life than back in the country.

To me I think that anybody would say that one of their heros would be their parents if their parents were always by their side. My mom always put her children needs first that’s why she’s my hero. She’s not selfish and she would always make sure that her children lives would not be difficult as hers. I love my mom and she’s my hero.

Fool – Blog #1

The Fool finds freedom through unconventionality and a capacity to enjoy every moment. The Fool lightens us up, finds clever, innovative, and fun ways around obstacles–intellectual or physical. At worst, Fools are irresponsible. At best, Fools live lives of joy because they live fully every moment.

I actually like this test because its interesting to see what was the outcome of my archetype. When I first read the word fool, I thought that this must be a mistake, but once I read the meaning I kind of agree to it. This test actually gave me an accurate results to who I am. It is interesting that i only have to answer many random questions and a simple test can give me a result that is realistic to my personality.

My Final Relective Letter:

Rereading my midterm reflective letter had made me realize that I am now much confident in my writing than I ever were. I remember one of our first conversations in class was about whether we think we were a writer or not a writer. My first thought was that I am not a writer. Now I can honestly say that I am a writer. I probably was always a writer, but I never thought I was. This class had actually built up my confidence in saying and thinking that I am a writer.

What I also mention in my midterm letter is that I believed that this class would help improve in my writing skills. Since it is the end of the semester, I can now say, yes this class had helped me very much. Not only that this class had helped me with my writing skills, but I discovered myself in away. I’m not trying to say that I did not know who I am, but the writings had made me over analyze myself. The whole concept of us writing an autoethnography in “What is I?” and having our 5 essays and our blog entries as our documents, made me realize how and why I wrote about the topics that I did.

No sucking up, but I love how you (Marlen) had set up your class. The whole concept was to help us discover what “I” really means to us. The 5 senses essay and the book you made us read had so much impact in our final paper. Not many instructors would go out their way and make their whole class about their students and I like how that you were the total opposite. I just want to say Thank You Marlen for being a great instructor and for improving my writing skills.

Autoethnography continue #11

For my first 5 pages of my autoethnography on what is “I,” it was actually easy for me. For me to complete the next 5 pages, I think I’m on the right road. As I go along explaining what “I” really means to me, I put examples from my blogs and essays that I wrote so far for this class.

For the 5 pages that I have right now, I think I have to work on some of the paragraphs. I might want to add some more information on my culture. To add on the rest of my essay, I will continue to use my blog entries and my essays to define what is “I.”
